Based at the 500 hectare Craig Farm, set in the beautiful Borders, James Ewart has held a dual-purpose training licence since 2004. Together with his wife Briony, they currently have a string of over 40 horses, which are mostly bought as two and three-year-olds and then brought on gradually to meet their full potential.

James has a strong connection to France, having spent four years with Guillaume Macair as Assistant Trainer and during which he won Champion Amateur Jockey in 2000.

Briony met James at Royal Agricultural College and spent a summer in France with Guilluame Macair before a two-year stint at Shadwell Stud which was followed by the pair setting up James Ewart Racing. Briony spends a significant time breaking in horses and riding out. She has been responsible for producing many winners including Wilde Pastures, Open De L’Isle and Capital Venture.

We have been delighted to work with James Ewart Racing for a few years and we were excited to learn of their new Yard Sponsorship by Fitzdares “the World’s Finest Bookmaker”. Fitzdares are growing rapidly and wanted to increase their profile in Scotland where they have opened new offices in Glasgow. James Ewart Racing is a perfect fit for them, and we hope they will enjoy a long and successful partnership.

To support the new venture we made a range of kit, including our Melton Paddock Sheet with matching Overgirth, Onyx Mesh Cooler, Power Pads and a range of yard clothing including our Waterproof Riding Blouson, Soft Shell Jacket and Soft Shell Gilet.

We put together a few possible designs but the one that really stood out was a Bottle Green body, Red outer binding and white inner binding. This compliments the Fitzdares logo perfectly and the end result is a really striking, top-class, look which will look fantastic at any racecourse.

One other interesting part of the project was making a ‘French’ Waterproof Exercise Sheet for the team. Owing to their experience in France, and the sometimes-harsh conditions in the Borders, they wanted a stronger, slightly heavier exercise sheet. This was no problem for us as we regularly make Waterproof Exercise Sheets for French clients and so James and the team will be putting ours through its paces this Winter. Made from 1000 Denier Waterproof Cordura and lined with fleece, this does have additional weight and structure – we will be bringing this on to the website as a regular product and do ask if you are interested in these.
